The big question now is whether Toyota will introduce this new baby Land Cruiser to India, a market that has recently demonstrated a strong appetite for lifestyle SUVs.

The FJ has a naturally tighter turning radius of 5.5 meters because its wheelbase is significantly shorter than that of the Land Cruiser 250 by about 270 mm. When it arrives, perhaps in 2027 or later, it is anticipated to slot significantly lower than the Fortuner. Instead of pursuing turbocharged vehicles, Toyota has kept to a tried-and-true workhorse under the hood.
The FJ presents itself as a legitimate body-on-frame machine from the first. Toyota built it on an IMV platform that has already undergone significant localisation for Fortuner and Hilux, thereby accelerating its domestic debut.
The 2.7-litre 2TR-FE gasoline engine in the FJ is coupled to a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission. Its dimensions are 4,575 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, 1,960 mm in height, and 2,580 mm in wheelbase. Although the output levels are not very noteworthy—roughly 163 PS and 246 Nm—what counts in this situation is the motor’s reputation for longevity. Toyota wants the FJ to appeal to customers who appreciate dependability, usefulness, and mobility.
Toyota has maintained the cabin’s practicality and cleanliness on the inside, adhering to its positioning as a 4×4 that can be used on a daily basis. The FJ will go on sale in Japan in the middle of 2026, according to Toyota. Although Toyota hasn’t made any announcements regarding India, the company’s plan to introduce more than 15 new models, including an updated model, following record earnings, suggests that the FJ’s release is likely.
Another area where Toyota has purposefully embraced nostalgia is the design. The FJ is readily identifiable because of its squared-off stance, boxy greenhouse, chunky upright lines, and circular facial features. More intriguingly, it has wide cladding, exposed hardware, detachable bumpers for simple switching or repairs, and lots of room for bolt-on attachments.
