Current Diesel Engine Specifications
Currently, the premium Harrier and Safari models from the Indian automaker are powered by a single 2.0-litre diesel MultiJet engine that is sourced from Fiat and produces 168 horsepower and 350 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and a 6-speed manual gearbox are linked to it. Due to the lack of a gasoline engine, competitors who have both diesel and gasoline engines outperform the Tata SUVs.
Power and Performance Details Revealed
The new 1.5-litre four-cylinder tGDi engine is expected to be unveiled by March 2026, according to recent reports. We currently know that the engine will generate 168 horsepower and a maximum torque of 280 Nm. In addition, depending on the model and type, it should be available in a variety of tune states.

Launch Plans for Harrier, Safari, and Sierra
The new 1.5-litre tGDi petrol engine will be introduced first in the Tata Harrier and Safari models. In addition, the forthcoming Sierra SUV will also include a turbocharged gasoline engine. In India, the test mule for these SUVs with petrol engines has been seen several times.
Transmission Options and Gearbox Configurations
Although the turbo gasoline engine’s transmission options are yet unknown, a true 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox is probably in the cards. Furthermore, the package will also have a 6-speed manual transmission.
Expected Pricing and Future Engine Lineup
We anticipate that the Tata Harrier and Safari petrol will be priced at Rs. 1 lakh less than the present diesel range because this is an in-house manufactured engine. The 1.5-litre tGDi unit is reportedly the basis for Tata Motors’ 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine development. It is anticipated that the entry-level Sierra models will feature this four-cylinder NA motor.
