With manufacturers reporting increased sales numbers, it appears that the automakers’ expectations are being met. Hyundai recorded wholesale sales of 11,000 units on Monday, while Maruti Suzuki, the biggest automaker in India, had 80,000 inquiries and predicts over 30,000 deliveries on the first day of Navratri, when lower GST rates for automobiles went into effect.

Response from Hyundai Motor India

Speaking about the trend, Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and COO, HMIL, stated: “The market is feeling quite positive due to the auspicious beginning of Navratri, which has been boosted by the momentum from the GST 2.0 reforms. Hyundai Motor India Limited had its highest single-day performance in the previous five years on Day 1 alone, with about 11,000 Dealer billings.
“We are thrilled to add even more excitement to our customers’ celebrations as one of the first automakers to fully pass the benefits of GST to customers. We anticipate continued festive demand in the future and are dedicated to providing our clients with excitement and value,” he added.
Response from Maruti Suzuki

“The response from customers has been phenomenal—something we haven’t seen in the last 35 years. On the very first day, we recorded 80,000 enquiries, and have already delivered over 25,000 cars, with deliveries expected to touch 30,000 shortly,” Maruti Suzuki’s Senior Executive Officer for Marketing & Sales Partho Banerjee said.
“Since September 18th, when we announced additional price reduction (over and above GST), we have received 75,000 bookings, with nearly 15,000 bookings coming in every day—about 50% higher than usual. Demand for small cars has been strong, with bookings growing by nearly 50%,” Banerjee said.

Following the conclusion of the 16-day Shradh period, when people often abstain from making new purchases, Monday was the start of Navratri. The primary festival season is thought to be the period between the end of Shradh and Diwali. Furthermore, on Monday, the eagerly awaited reduction of GST on small cars and SUVs from 28 percent to 18 percent was implemented.
