iPhone 18 Pro Max to Be Heaviest iPhone Yet — Here’s Why!

The iPhone 18 Pro Max could become Apple’s heaviest iPhone ever, rumoured to weigh over 240g with a translucent design and enhanced cooling system.

Rumours regarding the next iPhone 18 Pro Max series are starting to surface now that the release of the iPhone 17 series has passed. A tipster claims that the top-tier model for next year may be the heaviest iPhone to date. The widely used iPhone 18 Pro Max is predicted to weigh more than 240g and be bigger and heavier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. But the reason for this shift is still a mystery.

The iPhone 18 Pro variants will have an improved form factor, according to a previous tip from the same source. Apple is anticipated to release a somewhat translucent back cover, potentially exposing internal parts like the MagSafe charging coils. Like the previous iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, the phones are reportedly expected to use a stainless-steel vapour chamber cooling mechanism.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max will be heavier and thicker than the current top model, according to a Weibo post from tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese). It is anticipated to weigh more than 240g, making it the heaviest iPhone to date. The iPhone 14 Pro Max weighed precisely 240g.

The Pro models also have a hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera and are tilted to support a variable aperture. The front camera cutout is now concealed by the company’s pill-shaped Dynamic Island. But according to another rumour, Apple won’t completely abolish the Dynamic Island—rather, it will merely be reduced in size.

Although it’s unclear if Apple will include an even bigger battery in the model for the next year, this is thought to be one of the causes of the possible weight increase. For comparison, the titanium-built iPhone 16 Pro Max weighed 227g. The iPhone 17 Pro Max’s weight climbed to 233g when Apple shifted to an aluminium construction. The weight increase was partly caused by a larger battery pack.
