Hyundai A class EV Micro-SUV in India By 2027. The Tata Punch EV, the only vehicle in this market sector at the moment, will be the primary target of the new electric vehicle. Following the introduction of the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Ioniq 9—three globally focused electric vehicles—between 2021 and 2024, Hyundai is now developing regional models to further establish its position in the EV market in important global markets. Later this year, the firm will introduce the Elexio in China, followed by an Elantra sedan with a China focus the following year. In Europe, the company intends to introduce the Ioniq 3 in the same year.

Creta Electric and the HE1i EV Project

Hyundai debuted the Creta Electric in India in January, but sales of this vehicle have been slow. The business will introduce a micro-SUV, categorised as an A+ vehicle, designed from the ground up for electric propulsion in 2027. This will most likely be the same vehicle that is internally referred to as the “HE1i EV.”

Delay in Launch Timeline

Despite prior indications that Hyundai would introduce this model in the second half of 2026, it now appears that the company has delayed the launch date until 2027, presumably due to waning global consumer demand for EVs. José Muñoz, CEO of Hyundai, said at the 2025 CEO Investor Day, “We are proud to introduce the nation’s first EV tailored for Indian drivers with a localized supply chain.”

Design Inspiration from Hyundai Casper EV

According to reports, the Hyundai Casper EV—known as the Hyundai Inster in Europe—will serve as the model for the Hyundai HE1i. Raised roof rails, pillar-mounted rear door handles, mean split headlights, and rear lights with pixel-like graphics are some examples of outward similarities; however, their designs may differ.

Expected Features and Technology

The main features of the A+ category EV may include a huge touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, and a fully digital instrument cluster with customizable layouts. Hyundai might employ a different design in this instance as well, one that is more in line with Indian consumers’ preferences.

Battery Technology and Range

Hyundai’s partnership with Exide Energy for locally made LFP cells is expected to be utilised for the first time by the HE1i. The battery pack that contains these LFP cells may have an energy storage capacity of 35–40 kWh. The A+ category SUV should have no trouble travelling more than 400 kilometres on a single charge. It is unclear if Hyundai would provide a smaller LFP battery pack for consumers who plan to use the vehicle mostly or exclusively in urban areas.

Competition with Kia Syros EV

The Kia Syros EV, which is expected to debut in early 2026, will probably compete with the Hyundai A+ class EV as well. Using the same chassis, powertrain, batteries, and other essential parts, it might be a corporate cousin of the latter.

PPX Saying

Hyundai’s upcoming A+ class EV marks a bold step toward making electric mobility more accessible in India. With a competitive price point, localised battery production, and features designed for Indian consumers, it aims to challenge the Tata Punch EV head-on. If Hyundai delivers on its promise of range, affordability, and practicality, this micro-SUV could redefine the entry-level EV market in India by 2027.
