Apple has reportedly halted plans for its 2026 iPhone Air successor due to poor sales, scaling down production and removing it from the upcoming iPhone 18 lineup.
iPhone Air Successor cancelled:- According to a source, Apple has abandoned its intentions to release the iPhone Air’s replacement in 2026. Too much enthusiasm, it was unveiled in September as the company’s first ultra-thin product. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly reducing its shipments and production volumes because the iPhone Air has not been able to keep up with buyers. The Air variant will not be included in the split launch that Apple was allegedly preparing for the alleged iPhone 18 series.

The inferior sales figures of the iPhone Air are said to have led to this decision. Ming-Chi Kuo, a supply chain analyst, noted that Apple was reducing shipments and production because the phone did not meet expectations. According to reports, the flagship iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max “cover the majority of high-end user demand,” leaving some space for new market niches.
According to The Information, Apple has notified its suppliers and engineers that it will no longer be releasing the iPhone Air replacement in 2026. The alleged ultra-thin smartphone itself has not been cancelled, simply the release date.

The cheapest model, which has 256GB of storage and costs $999 (about Rs. 88,100) in the US and Rs. 1,19,900 in India, has a number of drawbacks. In our evaluation of the iPhone Air, Gadgets 360 observed that although its ultra-thin form factor may appeal to some, its single rear camera is limited in scope and may occasionally leave users wishing for an ultra-wide or telephoto sensor.

This choice makes it evident that the trend of ultra-thin smartphones is not gaining traction. Earlier this year, Samsung, one of Apple’s main competitors in the top smartphone market, unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge, its own fragile smartphone. Because of its form factor, it was expected to make all the headlines, but sales did not meet expectations.
By the end of the month, Foxconn’s plant is anticipated to temporarily suspend manufacture of the iPhone Air, while Luxshare has reportedly already ceased production. The rumour states that it will not be introduced in the fall of 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 lineup, and the length of the delay is still unknown.

Additionally, its battery life isn’t the best in the class; however, it can last up to a day with casual use, but short gaming sessions or photo walks will quickly deplete it, increasing reliance on Apple’s iPhone Air MagSafe Battery.
As a result, it is believed that Samsung discontinued the ‘Edge’ series and launched the conventional Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra versions in 2026.
