This year, the auspicious period of Dhanteras lasted for two days, beginning at 12:18 PM on Saturday, October 18, and concluding at 1:51 PM on Sunday, October 19. Even if some customers were hesitant to buy on a Saturday, Maruti Suzuki was still hopeful about setting sales records. The company had delivered 38,500 units by Saturday evening and was on track to finish the day with about 41,000 units, which is about 10,000 higher than the 41,500 units it delivered the previous year.

This will be the highest deliveries the company has ever made in any time frame, according to Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer for marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki.
Since September 18, Maruti Suzuki has received 4.5 lakh reservations, of which about one lakh were for small cars. Around 14,000 reservations were made per day on average, and 3.25 lakh units were sold at retail during that time. Banerjee admitted that the company was experiencing a shortage of vehicles across all models in certain segments where demand exceeded supply. To satisfy Dhanteras’s demand, the production crew laboured even on the holiday.
He pointed out that a lot of clients who were hesitant to accept delivery on Saturday because of customary worries would accept delivery on Sunday. To assist customers, showrooms remained open till the wee hours of the morning. He noted that many purchasers hurried to make purchases during price reductions and ascribed the spike in demand to GST 2.0.

According to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the Next Gen GST Reforms, which went into effect on September 22, are already having a wide range of positive effects, from record-high sales of electronics and cars to cheaper everyday commodities, paving the way for more robust development in investment and consumption. Following the tax change, the International Monetary Fund revised growth predictions upward, indicating that the reform drive had a significant multiplier effect on the economy and sparked renewed enthusiasm among all.

Competitor With almost 14,000 deliveries, Hyundai Motor claimed solid momentum and a 20% year-over-year gain. The spike occurred as automakers credited the growth to what industry leaders referred to as the “GST 2.0 magic,” which refers to tax reforms that were put into place on September 22 and reduced rates on consumer products and cars.
Due to Dhanteras falling on a Saturday, Tarun Garg, Hyundai Motor’s full-time director and chief operational officer, who will take over as managing director and CEO on January 1, 2026, said the company saw high customer demand with deliveries dispersed over many days.
The festive mood, a thriving market, and the beneficial effects of the GST 2.0 amendments were the main drivers of the upward momentum. The premium hatchback and compact SUV classes, in particular, have a strong urban retail draw.

Demand stayed steady, and GST 2.0 gave it a boost, especially in tier-two and tier-three cities, where holiday shopping is still very common. The firm was able to maintain high inquiry-to-delivery conversion rates because of its SUV selection and the increasing adoption of electric vehicles.
With significant support from emerging markets, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles is anticipated to deliver more than 25,000 vehicles during the Dhanteras-Diwali window. Deliveries are spaced out over two to three days in accordance with local auspicious schedules, according to Chief Commercial Officer Amit Kamat.
