In 2015, Genesis gained independence and rapidly set itself apart from Hyundai’s conventional products. The G90 sedan launched the brand’s international expansion, which was later followed by the G80 and the SUVs GV70 and GV80. Genesis will go after well-known brands in India, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, Lexus, and Volvo.
One can make assumptions even if the firm has not disclosed which cars will be introduced in India. Given that the GV80 SUV has been seen in India on several occasions and that Hyundai has registered the GV80 and GV80 Coupe as trademarks there, it is very possible that the Genesis portfolio for India would include the vehicle.
Both ICE-powered SUVs and fully electric cars are anticipated to be part of the portfolio. The debut will probably be led by the GV80 SUV. Local assembly through the CKD route is a crucial component of the plan. Hyundai’s FY2030 roadmap, which lists 26 forthcoming models in India, including facelifts, derivatives, new nameplates, and full generational updates, aligns with Genesis’ debut.

Tarun Garg, the full-time director and chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor India Limited, stated in the Annual Report 2024–2025, the luxury brand was being evaluated for India. At Hyundai India’s first Investor Meet recently, its arrival was finally confirmed. According to Hyundai, Genesis-branded luxury vehicles will follow the ‘Make in India’ approach.
However, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class executive sedan is the best-selling luxury vehicle in India, not an SUV. Hyundai is probably going to think about introducing the full-size G90 luxury car and a comparable-sized Genesis G80 luxury sedan in India. The Hyundai camp is expected to release further information in the days ahead.
Additionally, Genesis’s GV80 was hinted at, suggesting that the SUV would be the first offering. There are two powertrain options for the 2025 GV80: a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that generates about 300 horsepower and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that produces about 375 horsepower. In certain regions, it can tow up to 2,722 kg and is built exclusively with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

With dimensions of approximately 4,940 mm in length, 1,975 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height for some variations, the exterior exudes a regal presence. A sweeping 27-inch widescreen display on the inside of the Genesis GV80 unifies the infotainment system and instrument cluster. It will compete with vehicles like the Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
