Swift from Maruti Suzuki climbed to the top spot, moved ahead of WagonR, Baleno and Tata Tiago in the Top 10 hatchback sales list of September 2025.

Top 10 Hatchbacks Sales India September 2025: Tata Motors rebounded with Tiago and Altroz, but Maruti Suzuki maintained its leadership in the hatchback segment. Some models posted strong sales numbers, and some of the popular models also saw YoY decline despite the festive season in India, while the Indo-Japanese brand held ground with its impressive sales numbers and continued its dominance as the top car manufacturer of India.

Top 10 Hatchbacks Sales India September 2025

Swift Modal from Maruti Suzuki sold 15,547 units in September 2025. This figure strongly suggests that Swift is the Highest-selling hatchback in India. When we do a YoY comparison with September 2024, it shows 4% decline. Despite this drop, the popularity of the brand remains strong and maintains its wide demographic appeal. As the latest generation of Maruti Suzuki Swift is well received by buyers, it moves up to rank one from the previous month in the leaderboard.

Followed by Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which showed positive YoY growth of 15 per cent with 15,388 units sold in September 2025, which is 2,049 units more than the previous year’s sales of 13,339 units. Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR Key strengths are to be a Popular family car across India with large spaces, efficient design, frugal engine and strong resale value.

The next position from this leaderboard is for Baleno, which is again from the Maruti Suzuki brand. Maruti Suzuki Baleno sold 13,173 units in September 2025 with a YoY change of negative 8 per cent, which is 1,119 less than last year’s 14,292 units of sale.

Tata Tiago

Talking about the next contender from the list is the Tata Tiago, which possesses a massive +97% growth on a year-on-year basis. It sold 4,225 units in September 2024, while 8,322 units were sold in September 2025. The Reason behind this massive growth is the popularity among Electric vehicle enthusiasts, which boosted its overall demand, also because of its EV variants. Also, Tata Motors is known for its Safety features and VFM proposition, which strengthened the sales.

Next in the list is Tata Altroz, which is again from Tata Motors and also possesses a strong growth of +51 per cent on a year-on-year basis with 4,168 units sold in September 2025. The midlife facelift variant arrived at the right time, which can be the Reason behind this kind of growth. The festive season and GST rate cuts also uplifted the sales.

Maruti Suzuki Alto Performance continues to decline with negative growth of 37 per cent on a YoY basis and sold 5,434 units in September 2025, which is 3,221 units less than last year’s 8,655 units.

Tata Altroz

India’s most affordable hatchback car is the S-Presso from Maruti Suzuki, which sold 1,774 units with a small increment of 4 per cent YoY growth. The Toyota Glanza give a steady YoY growth of only 2 per cent with 3,299 units in September 2025. The Hyundai i20 and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios show a YoY drop of 12 per cent and 17 per cent, respectively.
