With 22,573 units sold, nearly doubling its September 2024 sales, the small SUV became the nation’s best-selling vehicle.

Top 10 car sales in India

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire came in second position with 20,038 units sold, an 85% year-over-year increase. The robust performance of the compact sedan indicates the ongoing need for reasonably priced automobiles. Maruti total sales fell 8.4% from the previous year, despite the fact that it is still the largest carmaker in the country.

Tata Punch

With a single nameplate, Tata has been able to attract both mainstream and electric vehicle purchasers, as evidenced by the 97% year-over-year increase. The SUV has gained widespread appeal thanks to its many variations, features, and excellent construction quality. In a year timeline, Tata Motors’ entire market share jumped from 11.4 % to 15.8 %, because of the Nexon’s ascent.

Mahindra Scorpio lineup sold 18,372 units, this includes the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N, which is came in third position of this leaderboard, showing a 27% year-over-year increment. The manufacturer recently unveiled the revised 3-door Thar, Bolero, and Bolero Neo, all of which are expected to contribute to higher volume sales over this holiday season.

Remarkably, Maruti’s market share dropped from 40.4% to 35.1% even though five of its models were among the top 10. Hyundai Creta sold 18,861 units, which increased 19% from the last year, and came in third position. This SUV is still Hyundai’s best-selling vehicle in India’s domestic market and continues to dominate in the midsize SUV class.

Tata Punch came at number five, keeping up its momentum with 15,891 units sold, which is up by 16% from the previous year. Maruti Swift came in 2nd position with 15,547 units sold, which was down little less than 16,241 the previous year. The Wagon R, Fronx, Baleno, and Ertiga completed the top ten. But Tata’s ascent was the main story of September 2025.

The timing of the holiday season and the GST 2.0 tax breaks, which drastically reduced model asking prices, could not have been more ideal. In the remaining months of this year, they will undoubtedly supply the volume boost.
