Sales Recovery After GST Announcement
Since PM Modi declared on Independence Day that GST adjustments were imminent in mid-August, Indian consumers have mainly put off expensive purchases like cars. After the short-term downturn, Mercedes-Benz seems to have recovered well. Although it has not released the precise sales numbers for each month, the Stuttgart-based German automaker announced a 36% year-over-year increase in September 2025.
Q2 FY2026 Sales Performance
In a fiscal year, Mercedes-Benz has broken its previous record for second-quarter sales. In Q2 of FY2026, the business delivered 5,119 automobiles, of which over 50% came from Navratri sales alone. Specifically, electric cars contributed 8% of the quarterly volume, with top-end luxury models such as the GLS, S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, and Mercedes-AMG G63 accounting for a quarter of sales during this quarter.
Navratri Festivities and Government GST Announcement
To mark the beginning of Navratri, the Indian government announced the new GST rates on September 22. Mercedes-Benz claims that just during the nine-day festival, it sold almost 2,500 vehicles. Last month, the company not only achieved the best monthly sales but also set a new record for the highest Navratri sales to date.

Entry Luxury Models Lose Ground
Sales of the Entry Luxury lineup, which included small cars like the A-Class sedan and GLA, fell as they were overtaken by competitors with lower prices. Even though the Entry Luxury or worldwide C-segment accounts for only 15% of sales, it is nevertheless strategically significant since it attracts new consumers to the brand and establishes a foundation for future growth in higher segments.
Core Luxury Models Hit New Highs
Particularly in September 2025, monthly sales of the GLS, EQS SUV, and G63 reached their greatest points ever. The global D and E segments’ “Core Luxury” models, which include the C-Class, GLC, E-Class, and GLE, increased by 10% in the second quarter of FY2026. According to Mercedes-Benz, its Core Luxury portfolio achieved a new monthly sales record last month.
Luxury Dominance in the Indian Market
Sixty percent of its sales in India come from its executive and big models combined. The best-selling luxury vehicle in India is the E-Class, which comes in a long-wheelbase variant. In Q2 FY2026, it grew 47% year over year.
