Tata’s Best-Ever Quarterly EV Performance

As you might imagine, the automaker’s highest quarterly EV performance to date was achieved in Q2 of FY26, when it registered 24,855 EVs, up 59% from 15,642 units the previous year. With the recent addition of the Harrier EV to its lineup, Tata Motors is also reaping the benefits of increased demand for its environmentally friendly lineup.

On Course to Surpass One Lakh Annual Mark

Continuous record-breaking months have allowed the company to sell 57,022 EVs between January and September 2025, which already accounts for four-fifths of its CY2024 total. This puts the company solidly on course to surpass the one lakh annual mark, which seemed like an audacious goal not long ago. Impressive advances were also reported by the passenger vehicle industry as a whole.

Monthly EV Sales Double Year on Year

Tata sold 9,191 EVs (domestic and exports combined) in September alone, compared to 4,680 units at the same time the previous year. Since EVs accounted for almost one in five of Tata’s total passenger vehicle volumes in the same month, the company’s sales nearly doubled, solidifying its position as the nation’s EV leader.

Record Monthly Dispatches Driven by GST Cuts and Festive Demand

Tata recorded its highest-ever monthly PV dispatches at 60,907 units, a 47% increase over September 2024, as a result of GST 2.0 cutting auto taxes and the holiday season improving consumer sentiment. Of this, 59,667 units were sold domestically. The business pointed out that following the implementation of the updated GST rates, new reservations more than doubled in the second half of the month.

CNG and Flagship Models Also Witness Surge

In addition to the record EV run, CNG models reached a record high of more than 17,800 units in Q2, growing by triple digits over the same period last year. Leading the surge were well-known models like the Nexon, which achieved a personal record of selling almost 22,500 units in a single month, the most ever for any Tata PV. According to Tata, the freshly released Adventure X variants also increased sales of the Harrier and Safari. Exports increased by about five times annually, especially to South Africa.
