The Toyota Fortuner continues to lead the full-size SUV segment in the Indian market, followed by the Jeep Meridian.Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, and MG Gloster posted negative growth.
The Full-Size SUV Sales market is anticipated to expand in the automotive industry as a result of the recent GST rate drop. The price reduction will increase these SUVs’ affordability and make them more available to a wider range of buyers. The Toyota Fortuner has traditionally dominated the full-size SUV market in terms of sales, and in August 2025, this trend persisted.
S. No. | SUV Model | Aug 2025 Sales | Aug 2024 Sales | YoY Growth |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Toyota Fortuner | 2,508 | 2,338 | +7% |
2 | Skoda Kodiaq | 75 | 145 | -48% |
3 | Jeep Meridian | 75 | 60 | +25% |
4 | MG Gloster | 16 | 236 | -93% |
5 | Volkswagen Tiguan | 8 | 73 | -89% |
The Toyota Fortuner continued to hold the top place with 2,503 vehicles sold in August 2025. Given that 2,338 SUVs were sold during the same time period in 2024, this is a 7% year-over-year increase.
However, Fortuner had a 22% decline in MOM sales. One of the primary causes of the SUV’s steady sales is its demonstrated unwavering dependability, which is complemented by the brand value attached to the Toyota emblem.

The Skoda Kodiaq experienced a 48% year-over-year decline in growth, and the MOM chart showed a similar pattern. In contrast, the Jeep Meridian saw a 25-year-over-year increase, making it the only SUV to do so outside of the Fortuner. In MOM sales, however, it suffered a 22% loss.
When the Gloster sold only 16 units in August 2025, its graph fell with a 93% year-over-year reduction. MG debuted the facelifted Gloster, the Majestor, at the 2025 Auto Expo earlier this year. The latest Volkswagen Tiguan, which is now being sold in India as the R-Line, sold only 8 units. It had an 89% decrease in YOY sales, as well as a 71% decrease in MOM sales.
The Tiguan R-Line is imported into the country via the CBU channel, resulting in high prices. The German automaker will also introduce the Tayron 7-seater SUV to the country in the coming months.
PPX Saying
The full-size SUV market in India remains Fortuner-driven, with Toyota continuing its dominance despite a monthly dip. Jeep Meridian emerged as the only other SUV with positive YoY growth, signalling rising consumer interest. Meanwhile, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster, and Volkswagen Tiguan faced steep declines, struggling to maintain competitiveness in pricing and positioning.
As India’s SUV market gears up for new entrants like the Gloster and Tayron, the coming months will reveal whether Toyota can maintain its stronghold or if rivals can bounce back.
